I recently purchased a Scangauge. It plugs into the OBD2 port and displays RPM's along with all kinds of other data. It really doesn't work all that well as a tach since the refresh rate is too slow (2 seconds). Its great for monitoring temperature, ignition advance, IAT, checking/resetting DTC codes etc if you're into that sort of thing.

A real tach would be nice, but I've taken the bike to the rev limiter a couple of times just for the hell of it and there's no power available up there. Short shifting and staying in the torque curve seems to work best. The more I ride it, the less I miss the tach.
