With Shoei, they made mention of it on one of their websites, it can be found by following a link I left on the article and doing a little snooping around. As for Arai, it was burried a bit deeper in that you have to read it off their impact graphs.
As for choice, I totally agree with Gretsch. I choose to ride a motorbike and confront all the associated risks, I just choose to protect myself somewhat whilst embarking on an enjoyable yet somewhat dangerous past-time.
I have come off a bike at 80km/h (about 50mph) and if I wasn't wearing a helmet I would be dead but all I got was a bit of a shock, that's a pretty good choice if you ask me. I also choose to wear leathers as opposed to textiles now. If only they'd done as good a job as the helmet...
