as long as it isn't locked, you can pull the top clamp off easier than doing all the other stuff will mentioned. Just pull your clipons and loosen the restraining clamps on either ear. Then loosen the middle nut from the steering head and it'll slide right off.

you can get some needle nosed vise grips on those little nubs on the keyway, just pinch them and loosen them up. Mine were not tight at all, so the job was pretty easy.

I replaced mine with allens from the hardware store. ($.20 each)
